
Overview
The client operates a network of automotive dealerships supporting sales, service, and administrative teams across multiple locations. Reliable and secure access to corporate systems is critical to supporting employees who rely on desktops and laptops to perform customer-facing and operational tasks.
As they continued to modernize its IT environment, leadership identified the need for a centralized endpoint management platform that could improve security, simplify device provisioning, and reduce manual administrative effort. The organization engaged Oakwood Systems Group to design and deploy Microsoft Intune as part of a broader modernization initiative within the Microsoft ecosystem.
Business Challenge
The client managed a growing fleet of Windows devices joined to on-premises Active Directory and governed through Group Policy. This approach limited visibility into device compliance and made it difficult to apply consistent security controls across locations.
In addition, the organization wanted to modernize device onboarding and lifecycle management while minimizing disruption to end users. Introducing Intune required careful planning to address identity synchronization, licensing, application deployment, and coexistence with existing Group Policy settings. They needed a partner that could guide the transition while ensuring devices remained stable, secure, and usable throughout the rollout.
Solution
Oakwood partnered with the client to deliver a structured Intune deployment aligned to business and technical requirements. The engagement began with discovery activities focused on reviewing the existing Active Directory environment, Azure tenant configuration, licensing posture, and endpoint management practices. Oakwood worked with stakeholders to define desired outcomes for device enrollment, security configuration, and end-user experience.
Based on this assessment, Oakwood designed the Intune architecture, including Azure AD Connect configuration, device targeting strategies, and enrollment workflows. Conflicts between Group Policy and Intune were identified and documented to ensure a smooth transition. Design artifacts were produced to outline application deployment, configuration profiles, compliance policies, and update management processes.
During the build phase, Oakwood enabled automatic device enrollment, created Azure AD groups for users and devices, and configured Intune policies for Windows configuration, patch management, and application delivery. A proof-of-concept deployment using Windows Autopilot was implemented and tested to validate enrollment, policy application, and application installation scenarios.
Deployment activities included pilot testing, user communication support, and validation of enrollment and update processes. Oakwood worked closely with the client’s IT staff to address issues, refine configurations, and prepare the environment for broader adoption. Documentation and knowledge transfer were provided to support ongoing administration and future expansion of Intune capabilities.
Outcome
The Intune deployment provided the client with a centralized platform for managing and securing Windows devices across its dealership network. IT teams gained improved visibility into device compliance, update status, and configuration consistency, reducing manual effort and operational risk.
By modernizing endpoint management and introducing automated enrollment and patching workflows, they established a scalable foundation for supporting future device growth and remote work scenarios. The engagement improved security posture while enabling a more streamlined and manageable endpoint environment aligned with Microsoft best practices.
