Trans State Airlines Case StudyActive Directory | O365 | Case Study

Trans States Airlines reached a point where their disbursed IT systems and Active Directory infrastructure was overly complicated, difficult to manage and inefficient. They were relying on an email system that was becoming increasingly unstable with no redundancy measures in place to protect them from outages.

They needed to centralize their IT infrastructure, make it more reliable, and easier to manage to address the issues they were facing. The goal became consolidating their disbursed Active Directory and messaging system into a single, centralized corporate Active Directory infrastructure utilizing Exchange and Office 365.

Faced with the challenge of having limited resources and expertise to take on this project, they turned to their trusted advisor, Oakwood Systems Group, to assist with the planning, design, and implementation of a new Active Directory Forest and Exchange/Office 365 messaging infrastructure Oakwood worked directly with our client to gain a better understanding of the objectives and
requirements of its corporate initiative.  Oakwood then developed a design for the implementation and migration strategy that met organizational objectives.  Next, we provided consultation for implementing a new multi-site Active Directory forest and designed and deployed an Active Directory in Windows Azure that would include the federation farm for integration with Office 365.

Finally, we architected, designed and deployed an Exchange/Office 365 hybrid messaging environment with sites in Windows Azure and geographically disbursed data centers.  We utilized DAG technology and Kemp load balancing for site resilience and high availability while leveraging Windows Azure for ADFS deployment and file share witness.

We designed a coexistence strategy and a cross-forest migration strategy for users in multiple source domains and with Linked mailboxes in the source Exchange messaging environment. PowerShell was utilized to migrate Active Directory user accounts and mailboxes to Exchange/Office 365 in the new forest eliminating the need to use any 3rd party tools.

•Microsoft Exchange
•Windows Server Active Directory Services
•Office 365 (Exchange/Lync/SharePoint Online)
